Our Heritage Breed TurkeysPasture Raised Heritage Turkeys
Heritage Breed Turkeys must meet the following criteria: Naturally Mating, Long Productive Outdoor Lifespan and Slow Growth Rate. We originally started with our breeding stock of Bourbon Reds, Midget Whites, Blue Slate and Chocolate because of their smaller size, great forage abilities and their great docile personalities. Our breeding stock are free to roam our farmstead and always welcome every visitor. To be more sustainable rather than using hatcheries every year we hatch out our eggs from our own breeding stock. In the Spring we sell Fertilized Eggs and Newly Hatched Turkey Poults and in the Summer Months we sell Adolescent Breeding Pairs. From October until the end of December we sell our Heritage Turkeys for the Holidays. Our Turkeys when full-grown range in size from 7 lbs. to 22 lbs. Because Heritage Turkeys have a slow growth rate our turkeys take up to 22 weeks to reach maturity unlike the hybrid turkeys which take only 10 weeks to mature. We believe this slow growth is the reason Heritage Turkeys have a richer Turkey flavor. According to The Heritage Turkey Foundation "Heritage Turkeys were replaced by the industrial Broad-Breasted White Turkey starting in the 1960's and by 1990 the Heritage Breed Turkeys were near to extinction. Today's Industrial Broad-Breasted hybrid Turkeys cannot mate naturally, cannot walk or fly, cannot live past their adult size and their meat is dry and lacks flavor." Our Pastured Raised Heritage Breed Turkeys are very similar to their wild turkey cousins because they are able to fly, run and mate naturally, raise their own young and most importantly are able to eat a natural wild diet of grasses, seeds, nuts and insects. Their All Natural Organic diet and their ability to roam freely on our Farm is transferred into the healthiest and tastiest Turkey you will ever eat. Our Pastured Raised Heritage Breed Turkeys will be available fresh the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas. All fresh Turkeys must be picked up on the day of processing. We will also have frozen Heritage Turkeys available after December 1st. All orders are filled on a first come first serve bases as our quantity is very limited. A $25 deposit is required for each Turkey to be reserved. Unfortunately, we do not offer shipping or delivery of our Heritage Breed Turkeys so plan on taking a nice relaxing drive to Sharon Springs, NY to pick up your Heritage Breed Turkey on Processing Day.
